About the Art Program

Students will learn to understand and appreciate many kinds of art and the role art plays in reflecting culture, history and human emotion. Students will develop skills in creating art as a means of expression and illustration. They will gain a vocabulary of art terms that will enable them to describe and understand art. Art will be taught as a visual language that aims at enriching students' visual and critical awareness of art and the world around them.

The humanities setting offers an opportunity to teach across the curriculum and focus on subjects that can be enriched through the arts. This approach to teaching art provides students with meaningful learning experiences that increase their interest in their own learning, both in the art room and in their other classrooms.
