Third grade at Longfellow Humanities Magnet School is a year for students to become more
independent and to take increased responsibility for their school work
and their behavior. We have many new and exciting things to learn about this year!
In
Humanities, we begin with geography; the focus is on how the Earth was
formed. Other units include Early Native Americans, Canada, the
Vikings, Ancient Rome, and the history of St. Paul. We study the past
to see how it prepares us for the future.
In Language Arts,
every student is a part of Writers' Workshop, where we learn the
foundations of a writerly life. Each student will participate in a
small group "Literature Circle."
In Math, 3rd Graders use
Everyday Math and Calendar Math daily. Daily homework is important to
give students a solid foundation in basic fact skills. They will build
on these skills to develop fraction, decimal and problem solving
concepts.
Welcome to 3rd grade!
