Latin In phase 1 (2009-2010), Kindergarten and First grade will begin an Exploratory Latin program.  Latin is one of the distinguishing features of a classical education program, and one of the fastest growing languages in Minnesota schools. Benefits of Latin include: •    Over 60% of English vocabulary comes from Latin •    Foundation for grammar stage of learning •    Learning Latin root words gives students the tools needed to decode challenging vocabulary •    Increases student’s problem solving skills •    Develops verbal skills, mental precision, and study skills •    Provides advantages for learning modern languages •    Helps develop vocabulary in science, history, and literature •    Useful for professions such as law, medicine, and science
